In my view, weekend getaways are something you need to do to break up the monotony of the working life routine and find some freedom in somewhere other than the place you call home.
In mid-August I took a short road trip to Berry, a small village on the south coast of New South Wales, Australia.
I went with my partner and brought my dog Howard, to spend a couple of days with family and zone out from big city life. For anyone not familiar with Berry it’s about 145 kilometres away from Sydney and it takes about two hours to get there.
Berry is a picturesque little spot on this side of the world with rolling hills, lovely people, a couple of lush wineries and the general community spirit that comes with a small coastal town. (It’s also pretty famous for their Berry Donut Van which churns out the hottest, fluffiest donuts in Australia)
I had the added bonus of being able to stay with my in-laws as they live there (Part of their house can be found on Airbnb - check it out if you are ever looking for a place to stay!)
With nothing much planned, we meandered around the town on Saturday morning with a short stroll to the main strip. There’s one place I never miss when I head this way - Sourdough Bakery which has excellent coffee, pastries and my favourite: chocolate brownies.
Seriously, these brownies are chocolatey perfection with a melt in your mouth, fudgey consistency - too bad I forgot to take a photo. You’ll just have to take my word for it!
We then took Howard for a walk to the dog beach for a quick splash in the rockpools. This beach isn’t much for sunbaking (especially not the time of the year that we went) but it’s got great surf, and is flanked by farmland cliffs (where you can spot cows if you are lucky!) and it’s perfect for doggy play time.
You can find it by heading to Black Head Reserve and Park near Headland Drive/Stafford St and walk towards the water)
Saturday night was all about chillaxing with wine and a movie (Have you guys seen ”I, Tonya”? I thought it was pretty good! ) and we were spoilt for lunch on Sunday when my in-laws made us some homemade burgers. Sometimes it doesn’t take much to give your soul a bit of TLC!
We drove back to Sydney that afternoon and on our way home, we visited Cakers Warehouse at Albion Park to pick up some cake supplies. A must-go pit stop if you are ever passing through!
After this short trip, I felt pretty refreshed and was able to press on with a lot of planning and writing for my new online course.
I’d love to hear what inspires you guys on a regular basis. Drop a comment at the bottom of the page and let me know what you’ve been up to and how that inspires you!
